Children’s Friend recently welcomed first lady Stephanie Chafee, U.S. Rep. David N. Cicilline and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, as well as corporate and advocacy leaders for the ninth annual Investing in Our Children Luncheon. The event, which included a silent auction and raffle, raised roughly $100,000 for Children’s Friend’s programs for child welfare and development, family support and mental health. In addition, The Washington Trust Co. was presented with the 2011 Friend of Children Award.
“While this economy has taken its toll across the country, Rhode Islanders have been hit harder than most,” said David Caprio, president and CEO of Children’s Friend. “Thanks to the generous support we are receiving today, we can continue to make a difference in children’s lives.”
Caprio continued, “We are especially grateful that we can call Governor and first lady Chafee, Congressman Cicilline and Mayor Taveras friends and thank them for all they do to make sure that all kids in Rhode Island have access to the best start for a successful life.” •
