Company reaps health rewards with garden

Hexagon Metrology Inc. is a global enterprise, but the impact of its wellness initiatives is making a difference locally. According to Susan Booth, a registered nurse who is health services manager for the North Kingstown site, 50 percent of the company’s 250 Rhode Island employees are reaping the benefits of the Hexagon Personal Calibration program.

“We spend so many hours of our lives at work,” said Booth. “It’s important to have wellness education available. … It absolutely helps with morale.”

The HPC program incentivizes employees in cash up to $350 per year for hitting benchmarks like annual physicals, dental cleanings, online health assessments and wellness tutorials. Booth also organizes lunches for employees during which they can gather to learn more about topics including Alzheimer’s disease and CPR. A garden for planting and tending provides stress-relieving breaks, and the company is a regular fixture in ShapeUp RI walking challenges, paying the cost of entry for each employee.

“I think that people are looking for things to do at work that are good for themselves,” Booth said. “Not just work, work, work.” n
