Concert at Met raises $5K for R.I. Philharmonic Music School

PAWTUCKET – The sixth annual Rock 4 Kids benefit concert at The Met raised more than $5,000 for the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School.
The fundraiser also will support scholarships for local disadvantaged students to learn music and play in jazz groups, rock bands, youth orchestras and more.
At the event, held Jan. 30, students from the music school joined Hasbro Inc.’s Music Matters Employee Network for a night of music and giving. Performances included the Philharmonic’s Youth Jazz Band and three bands from Hasbro, Toys 2 Men, the Exclusives and Blaster.
“I cannot begin to tell you how excited everyone in our Music Matters Employee Network was to play on stage at the Met alongside the Rhode Island Philharmonic’s Youth Jazz Band,” said Karen Davis, senior vice president of global philanthropy and employee engagement at Hasbro Inc. “It’s great to see how our employees applied their very special set of talents to provide more youth with the opportunity to experience the Rhode Island Philharmonic’s innovative music education programs.”
Hasbro’s Music Matters Network is a group of employees that showcase their individual and collective musical styles and talents. Their mission is to promote music education and awareness at Hasbro and in the community through volunteering and benefit concerts.
The youth jazz band is comprised of middle and high school students performing on brass, wind and rhythm instruments.
“The students love to play and share their talent and enthusiasm with an audience,” said Wendy Klein, director of the youth jazz band. “When they get to combine their musical joy with a really good cause like raising money for the Student Scholarship Fund, which impacts many of them and their friends directly, they feel like they are contributing to something really important.”
Now in its 28th year, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School serves approximately 1,500 children, youth and adults every week with lessons, classes and ensembles, and an additional 25,000 students annually through community partnerships, residencies, education concerts and in-school performances.
Hasbro is a global company committed to creating the world’s best play experiences. It is known for games and toys ranging from Play-Doh, Transformers and Nerf to Monopoly and My Little Pony.
