Conn. rejects Coutu Brothers Movers

WARWICK – The Connecticut Department of Transportation has rejected Coutu Brothers Movers application to expand its three-truck moving operation into North Stonington, according to TheDay.com.

Several months ago, Coutu Brothers’ owner Bob Romano applied to expand his operation into Connecticut and was rejected last week for failing to prove there was a need for his services.

According to the news source, two other moving companies in the region claimed that the new competition from Coutu Brothers would hurt their business.

Romano said he spent more than $6,000 in preparation for the North Stonington expansion. He leased a location on Norwich-Westerly Road, paid his business-entity fee and started making repairs to the office space he intended to occupy.

Only 3 other companies in the past two years have applied for a Connecticut license to move household goods. According to TheDay.com, all other requests – including one from an out-of-state firm – were granted.
