Construction jobs up ?in Providence region

PROVIDENCE – The Providence-Fall River-Warwick area gained 1,800 construction jobs in November, a 9 percent increase when compared with the same period last year, the Associated General Contractors of America said last month.
The figures, based on an analysis of seasonally adjusted federal employment data, said construction employment in the area hit 21,800 in November, up from 20,000 in November 2010.
Proportionally, Rhode Island had the third-highest construction-employment percentage gain in the country at 6.5 percent for November. The state gained 1,000 construction jobs year-over-year to reach 16,500 statewide.
Nationally, 25 states and Washington, D.C., gained construction jobs in November while 24 states lost jobs compared with 2010.
Massachusetts gained 1,900 year-over-year construction jobs in November, a 1.8 percent gain.
Out of 337 metropolitan areas across the country, 146 lost construction jobs from November 2010 to November 2011, while 131 gained jobs, and 60 stayed the same. &#8226
