Julie Costa was recently presented the CEO Award of Excellence during the Keller Williams Realty International annual conference. Costa is a managing broker for Keller Williams Realty of Newport and East Bay, a position she has held since 2006. She is also a member of the Newport County Board of Realtors, the Young Professionals Network and the Women’s Council of Realtors. Costa holds a B.S. in fashion merchandising and design from the University of Rhode Island.

PBN: What is the CEO Award of Excellence and why is it awarded?
COSTA: The Award of Excellence is one of the company’s highest recognitions and is given each year by the Keller Williams Realty International vice chairman of the board. It is given to a single individual in appreciation for their outstanding efforts in the cultural upkeep of the company’s mission not only in their office, but throughout the region and beyond. I think most people just get caught up in the day-day activities without really taking time to reflect on the impact they have outside their immediate environment. Receiving this award puts everything I have done and everything we have accomplished as a team in perspective.

PBN: What is the mission/culture of Keller Williams Realty International? What are some ways in which you have worked to further it?
COSTA: The mission of Keller Williams is to build careers worth having, businesses worth owning and lives worth living. Through this we strive to provide world-class training and education to our agents on an everyday basis. Our goal is to help them excel in their real estate practices and take their businesses to the next level. To further this, we also have a strong tie to the community and pride ourselves on giving back through fundraising and volunteering both locally and on a national level. It is through this that we have truly been able to excel not only in business but personally as well.

PBN: What are some other ways in which Keller Williams Realty of Newport and East Bay has worked to survive/thrive despite the economy?
COSTA: We have a different philosophy when it comes to opening an office. Many real estate companies believe if they build it the agents will come. We believe the opposite; we focused on getting the right agents before we opened our doors. This helped us ensure that we got into business with the right people of the right mindset. Our agents, coupled with strong leadership and operating the business on a leading with revenue philosophy, have been the reason for our continued growth and success. &#8226
