PROVIDENCE – Cox Business and Inc. Magazine, in partnership with Providence Business News, will offer local entrepreneurs the chance to win a $5,000 Cox Business technology package at the Get Started RI business-pitch competition.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, Oct. 30. Applicants must describe their proposed product or service pitches in no more than 250 words. Cox Business will select up to five finalists to pitch their ideas live at The Renaissance Hotel in Providence on Nov. 6.

Entrants will be notified by Oct. 31 if they are selected to pitch in the live competition. Local business professionals not competing are also encouraged to attend the free event, or watch the pitches via livestream at the competition webpage beginning at 6 p.m.

“Cox Business is passionate about supporting local small-business growth, and what better place to focus than the startups that need resources and support the most,” said Mark Scott, vice president of Cox Business, in a release. “Get Started RI is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to learn from our expert panel and from one another.”

Get Started RI will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a networking session, followed by the live pitch competition. Finalists will have two minutes to pitch their business ideas to the expert panel. The panelists will then determine the best pitch based on the innovation, ease of implementation and benefit to the local community of the idea.

After the competition, the panel of judges will hold an interactive Q&A with the live audience.
