Cox Charities awards $3K grant to MS society, names volunteer ‘community hero’

WEST WARWICK – Peter Lamberton of East Providence, a National Multiple Sclerosis Society volunteer, has been named a Cox Charities “community hero.”
The Multiple Sclerosis Society will receive a $3,000 Cox Charities grant to mark the recognition.
The Cox Charities “community hero” program recognizes Cox employees who actively volunteer with a nonprofit organization in the community.
Lamberton, a Cox Media marketing manager, has been involved with the nonprofit for more than 20 years, serving on the board of directors and acting as various committee chairs over that time. He has been heavily involved in an array of fundraising events and activities, and has served on several national subcommittees.
“Our employees do not just serve Rhode Island’s communities; they live within them and play active roles in enriching and strengthening them,” said Jennifer Bramley, vice president of public and government affairs at Cox Communications. “We are proud of Peter’s commitment to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and encourage all of our employees to donate their time and talent to organizations and causes they are passionate about.”
The nonprofit’s Greater New England chapter helps each person affected by multiple sclerosis in the region address the challenges of living with the disease. The organization raises funds for cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education and provides programs and services that empower people with MS and their families to move their lives forward.
“Peter is an essential and generous supporter of our organization,” said Ericka Tavares, director of marketing and communications at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. “He gives of himself to help people who live with the challenges of multiple sclerosis. To them and to us, he is a hero and we couldn’t be more grateful for his devotion to the society and the MS community.”
Since 2001, Cox Communications has awarded more than $550,000 in Cox Charities grants and in-kind support on behalf of their employees’ volunteer efforts throughout the Cox service areas.
