Cox, TD Bank, Verizon named to DiversityInc top 50

PROVIDENCE – Cox Communications Inc., TD Bank N.A. and Verizon Communications Inc. are three companies with significant Rhode Island operations that made it onto DiversityInc’s 2015 list of the top 50 companies for diversity.
Cox Communications ranked highest among companies with a Rhode Island connection at 17th, while TD Bank came in at 39th and Verizon Communications at 50th.
Atlanta-based Cox also ranked ninth among DiversityInc’s subcategory of the top 10 companies for diversity councils, while TD Bank ranked second.
DiversityInc.com had this to say about Cox: “Since Pat Esser began his tenure as president, Cox Communications has been on the list 10 times and moves up one spot this year. Under Esser’s diversity-and-inclusion leadership, Cox has enhanced its supplier-diversity practices and talent development, as well as launched multi-cultural and segment-based employee resource groups.”
Toronto-based TD Bank has been on the list for three years in a row, and moved up six spots this year.
“TD Bank has a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility with a special focus on underserved communities,” its snapshot on DiversityInc.com reads.
New York City-based Verizon was recognized for earning a spot on the list every year since its inception, and was noted for placing “an emphasis on diverse talent, supplier diversity and philanthropic initiatives.”

Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. ranked first for the second year in a row. More than 1,600 companies participated in the survey, in its 16th year.
DiversityInc assesses performance based on four key areas of diversity management: workforce breakdown and recruitment; employee resource groups, mentoring and philanthropy; personal communications and visibility; and accountability.

In its unranked list of 25 noteworthy companies, which are companies that have the potential to make the 2015 DiversityInc top 50, Woonsocket-based CVS Health Corp. earned a spot.
CVS Health also ranked 10th among the top 10 companies for veterans, according to DiversityInc.
