CRANSTON – Cranston and Warwick are among the 50 best cities to live in, according to a survey by 24/7 Wall St., a financial news website. Cranston, the state’s third largest city, came in at No. 36. Warwick, the state’s second largest city, came in at No. 45.
The best place to live?
The Boston suburb of Newton, Mass., which has a median household income of $125,642, and median home value of $689,900.
Cranston was touted for having “plenty of leisure activities” for its residents.
Its 3.5 miles of shoreline along the Providence River also was mentioned, as well as its median income of $59,000 and high percentage of students attending private schools. Average commuter time was 22 minutes and median home value, $205,900. Violent crime was 161 incidents per 100,000 residents.
“Cranston’s multiple nationally-recognized historic districts and low crime rates also make it an attractive place to live,” the survey stated.
Warwick’s low home values – median home value is $199,300 – compared to the rest of the state make it an affordable place to live, the website stated.
And it also was recognized for being the home of T.F. Green Airport, the state’s largest airport, which serves as a major hub between Baltimore and Boston.
Warwick’s violent crime rate was 124 incidents per 100,000 residents, and its median household income was $61,453. Average commuter time was 23.9 minutes.
To come up with the list, the website 24/7 Wall St. identified 550 cities that the U.S. Census Bureau reported as having more than 65,000 residents in 2012. It then used data on crime, economy, education, housing, environment, leisure and infrastructure to determine the top 50.
