Credit union takes part in CU4

EAST PROVIDENCE – In an ongoing push toward enhancing financial education, the Community and Teachers Federal Credit Union joined more than 150 East Providence High School students earlier this month for the sixth annual CU4 Reality Financial Education Program and Fair.
The credit union held the event in conjunction with East Providence High School and students interacted with employees and other business people, according to a press release. Kenneth Saunders, president and CEO of Community and Teacher Federal Credit Union, said in a statement that the event helps teach students about the importance of understanding finances.
“The Financial Education Fair is the culminating event that allows the students to experience firsthand what it takes to develop a monthly expense and savings plan and gain a better appreciation of the importance of budgeting, financial planning and making wise purchasing decisions,” Saunders said.
CU4 Reality is a curriculum that integrates financial education into the classroom.
Credit union representatives visited the school periodically during the school year, conducting monthly presentations on subjects including careers, savings accounts, checking accounts, debit cards, financial planning and credit and budgeting, according to the release.
