Crossroads completes N.K. project

Posted:

NORTH KINGSTOWN – The first phase of Crossroads Rhode Island’s Kingstown Crossing green housing project has been completed three months ahead of schedule, TRAC Builders of Johnston announced this week.

The first phase of Kingstown Crossing, located off Devil’s Foot Road in North Kingstown, includes 58 apartments in 10 buildings for families with children facing homelessness.

When fully built out, Kingstown Crossing is planned to have 104 apartments and, in the last phase of construction, a community center.

The development replaces a 58-unit Navy housing complex on a 14-acre site.

Kingstown Crossing was designed to be energy efficient and has been gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The first 58-unit project was completed by TRAC just before Christmas, well ahead of the original March deadline, said TRAC President William Tracey

Families who moved into the first buildings in the complex last spring reported significantly lower energy costs than they were used to, according to TRAC’s website. The project used traditional construction materials employed in an energy efficient design.
