Cumberland planners revisiting solar energy

CUMBERLAND – Major solar installations are forbidden in town, but the Planning Board is hoping to change that soon.

As it works on revising the town’s comprehensive plan, which hasn’t been updated since 2003, it hopes to amend it with a few paragraphs regulating commercial solar-production facilities, according to The Call of Woonsocket.

“The comprehensive plan really needs to include it,” Planning Director Jonathan Stevens said, “because it’s coming, and it’s good for the environment. The real question is: Should it be allowed? At what levels?”

The issue has become especially pressing because Bella Energy, a Colorado-based solar-energy company, has proposed putting a solar farm off West Wrentham Road. •
