PROVIDENCE – Four Rhode Island teams won prizes of outdoor gear and camping equipment at the fourth and final event in the R.I. Department of Environmental Management’s 2013 Rhode Island Great Outdoors Pursuit on Saturday, Aug. 17, the DEM announced Thursday.

More than 1,720 people on 408 teams participated in this year’s event, aimed at connecting people with the outdoors and state forests, encouraging physical activity and promoting the environment. Teams competed in “outdoor adventures” at a variety of facilities and learned about health and environmental issues, according to a release.

At a grand prize ceremony following the final event at Burlingame State Campground in Charlestown, grand prize winners the “3 Stoogers” of Coventry won a kayaking package of four kayaks, life vests and paddles and a free week of camping.

First place winners “S’More Fun” of Cranston won an assortment of camping supplies and a free week of camping, the second place “Kickin Kavanaghs” of Warwick won handheld GPS units and the third place winning “Davis Devils” of Warwick won a family fishing package.
