PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Environmental Management is planning to move 150,000 pounds of quahogs to replenish local shellfish populations, according to The Associated Press.

Ocean State officials told the news agency that they plan to hold two quahog transplants next month.

The harvested shellfish will be transported by boat and the state is looking for fishermen willing to assist in the process.

The transplanted populations will be off-limits to fishermen until December to allow them to spawn.
