DEP seeking comment on proposed regulations

BOSTON – The Mass. Department of Environmental Protection is seeking public comment for proposed amendments to agency regulations that deal with wetlands, waterways and water-quality certifications, as well as wastewater-related changes to state-issued permits and operation standards for sewer-treatment works.
The comment period is open until May 10, the department said in a release.
The proposed amendments are part of DEP’s Regulatory Reform Initiative, which is looking to make environmental regulation “more efficient,” while maintaining high standards for the protection of public health and the environment.
According to the release, the amendments proposed will eliminate “unnecessary” permits, exempt certain Wetlands Protection Act filing requirements, modify wastewater-treatment-plant operator requirements, and streamline a host of regulations.
The proposed regulations and background information are available on DEP’s Web site at: www.mass.gov/dep/water/approvals/2012 rr.htm •
