CRANSTON – The R.I. Department of Labor and Training is holding a free, three-part employer education series for Rhode Island businesses.

In “Unemployment Insurance Tips for Employers,” the first of the series, DLT experts will help employers build strategies to protect against and prevent fraud and improper payments.

The seminar will also explain how the unemployment adjudication process applies to workers unemployed for reasons other than layoffs and what documentation employers are responsible for in this situation.

Because of a large projected turn-out, the seminar, which will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, will be help at the Showcase Cinemas at the Warwick Mall at 400 Bald Hill Road.

The second portion of the series is a two-part work shop explaining temporary disability insurance and workers’ compensation for the medical community. “Temporary Disability Insurance for Medical Providers” will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 31 at the DLT’s Cranston location at 1511 Pontiac Avenue.

“Workers’ Compensation for Medical Practitioners,” which will explain the details of Rhode Island’s workers’ compensation laws, is scheduled to start directly after the TDI seminar at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 31.

The last seminar, “Workforce Assistance for Local Businesses,” will introduce employers to services at the DLT’s Business Workforce Center. This workshop is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14 at the Cranston branch.

Registration is required. Visit www.dlt.ri.gov for more information.
