PROVIDENCE – Cash collections increased 2.2 percent over the year in November to $244.4 million, led by a 115.5 percent jump in departmental receipts, the R.I. Department of Revenue said Thursday.

A 614.1 percent increase over the year in fines and penalties to $1.1 million, boosted departmental receipts, according to the state agency.

Lottery transfers fell 7.3 percent to $29.1 million from $31.4 million in November 2015. The DOR said that was driven in large part by the inclusion of $1.1 million in revenue in November 2015 that had been previously accrued to fiscal 2015.

Cigarette tax revenue grew 20.3 percent in November to $12.5 million from $10.4 million in November 2015. Alcohol tax revenue fell 3.6 percent during the same period, to $1.6 million from $1.7 million.

Departmental receipts again led growth during the fiscal period, with a 7.5 percent increase compared with the same time frame in 2015.

Lottery transfers were flat fiscal year over fiscal year at $121.2 million.
