The Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership’s eighth annual Dancing with the Stars of Mentoring fundraiser raised a record-breaking $115,000 leading up to and during the event held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet on May 1.
The performers were a medley of professional dancers from the Dancin’ Feelin’ studio, who teamed up with school teachers, carpenters and insurance agents. Local businesses also donated time and funds for the event. Coastway Community Bank organized the silent auction, which raised $14,000. Washington Trust Co. was the lead sponsor as well as coordinator of the “wine grab bag,” which poured $6,000 into the fundraiser.
Proceeds went directly to RIMP’s programs, which are dedicated to expanding quality mentoring services for Rhode Island youth. RIMP trains adults to serve as role models who provide support and quality time for students in grades K-12 in order to boost the student’s self-esteem and attitude towards school, while also improving their academic performance and attendance. •
