BURRILLVILLE – Cured-meat-maker Daniele Inc. is breaking ground Tuesday morning on a new $50 million manufacturing plant near its existing factory in the Burrillville Commerce Park.

The new plant will allow Daniele to roughly double its manufacturing and packaging capacity to 46 million pounds of product and 200 packages a year, spokeswoman Dyana Koelsch said.

Around 250 workers will be employed during construction of the 300,000-square-foot facility at 1000 Daniele Drive.

Owned by the Dukcevich family, Daniele makes prosciutto, pancetta, salami and other pork products.

The company, which first opened in Rhode Island in 1976, employs 300 people in its two existing Burrillville facilities.

Koelsch said once the third plant is finished, Daniele expects to hire additional full-time workers, but hasn’t determined how many.

Daniele executives will be joined Tuesday at 10 a.m. for a ceremony at the site of the new plant by government officials including Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo and R.I. Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Keith Stokes.
