Davies students to vie for national honors

LINCOLN – Teams from William M. Davies Jr. Career & Technical High School will be representing Rhode Island in a national cooking and restaurant-management competition this spring in Dallas.

Davies teams won both categories of the state ProStart competition held at the Hyatt Regency in Newport. Sponsored by the Rhode Island Hospitality Association Educational Foundation, that competition was a preliminary leading to the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Nationals.

Second place in culinary was won by Newport County Career and Technical Center. The second-place management award went to Exeter Job Corps Academy.

In addition to the opportunity to compete in the nationals, scholarship money is awarded at both the state and national level. The national competition will be held in Dallas April 29 through May 1. Students from across the nation will compete for over $1.4 million in scholarship prizes. •
