Day One agency receives reaccreditation

Posted 12/12/11

PROVIDENCE – Day One, the only agency in Rhode Island organized specifically to deal with the issues of sexual assault as a community concern, announced on Dec. 5 that it had received reaccreditation of its Children’s Advocacy Center from the National Children’s Alliance.

“As a team of individuals dedicated to responding to child abuse, we recognize the importance of accreditation from National Children’s Alliance and supporting a multidisciplinary team approach,” said Peg Langhammer, executive director of Day One. “Accreditation not only validates Day One’s proven effective approach to responding to allegations of child abuse, but also provides consistency across the child advocacy center movement as a whole.”

Day One also announced a change in protocols that will eliminate the “minimal facts” criteria, so that interviews can be conducted in an expedited manner in the investigation of child sexual abuse cases.

At a ceremony marking the reaccreditation, the Rhode Island attorney general’s office announced the creation of a new child abuse unit, to be led by Special Assistant Attorney General Shannon Signore.
