PROVIDENCE – The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation and Big Blue Bug Solutions officially lit the affectionately known as the “Big Blue Bug” earlier this week, marking one start of the holiday season and lighting a portion of Interstate 95 for residents who call the unofficial landmark Nibbles Woodaway.
“[The foundation] is so pleased and honored to be joining forces with such a respected and conscientious organization as Big Blue Bug Solutions,” said John DeCubellis, executive director, in a statement. “For decades, this fun-loving icon has had a prominent presence in this state and persistently supports charities and their missions. We are fortunate to team up with Big Blue Bug to help encourage motorists to drive responsibly and hopefully save lives.”
In 1999, a drunken driver killed 13-year-old Katie DeCubellis, daughter of John and Meg DeCubellis. Since then the foundation has worked to raise awareness about the dangers of drunken and distracted driving.
The foundation this week also launched its Magnet Campaign, placing magnets on various company vehicles statewide to remind people to drive responsibly. Big Blue Bug Solutions, the R.I. State Police, AAA of Southern New England, Del’s Lemonade, Munroe Dairy, and Almeida Plumbing are all participating.
