Deadline approaching for R.I. Elevator Pitch Contest

PROVIDENCE – The deadline is approaching to register for the annual Rhode Island Elevator Pitch Contest, sponsored by the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition.

Those interested in describing their business ideas in 90 seconds to a panel of judges have until Nov. 28 at 5 p.m. to register for the contest, which will be held on Dec. 4 and award $1,000 in cash prizes to the top presenters.
Participants also will receive immediate feedback from business professionals. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Betaspring, 95 Chestnut St., third floor. The event is free and open to the public.
Effective pitches should cover the problem that will be solved, the proposed solution, how the idea will make money and why the presenter is qualified to implement the solution.
Apply online here by 5 p.m. on Nov. 28.

“Knowing how to make a convincing case to potential investors and business partners is a critical skill for successful entrepreneurs, and the Elevator Pitch Contest provides a great opportunity to get immediate feedback from people who know how to build a business,” competition Co-Chair Anthony Mangiarelli, principal in the accounting firm KLR, said in a statement.

The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition also will host free workshops aimed at helping emerging and aspiring entrepreneurs learn what it takes to build a business. On Jan. 8, “Going from Idea to Business” will be held; on Feb. 12, “Writing Your Business Plan;” and March 12, “Presenting to Investors.”
