Dean Street Studios to replace former Advent House Apartments

PROVIDENCE – The $9 million renovation of a former apartment building into supportive housing for the disabled and formerly homeless is underway in Providence.
Dean Street Studios will take the place of the four-story building formerly known as Advent House Apartments. In addition to the renovated apartment units, Riverwood Mental Health Services will relocate its Housing First R.I. offices to the location. Its on-site programs will include psychiatric, substance abuse, medical and vocational services, according to a news release.
The redevelopment will renovate the building into 51 units of housing, using funds from sources including state and federal sources, and a state affordable housing bond authorized by voters in 2012. The work will include upgrades to apartments and common areas, exterior repairs, a roof replacement and new security.
The Women’s Development Corp., Riverwood Mental Health Services, Rhode Island Housing and the city of Providence held a ceremonial groundbreaking last week.
