Decof pledges music-education scholarship

PROVIDENCE – The law firm of Decof, Decof & Barry P.C., has pledged to contribute $1,250 annually to establish a new scholarship in elementary music education.
The newly created Andy J. Santagata Memorial Scholarship will be part of the Cranston parent-advocacy group, BASICS (Benefiting All Students in Cranston Schools). Led by volunteer parents, BASICS provides affordable music education for approximately 150 elementary school students in Cranston per year. In its fourth year, more than 600 kids have participated in the program to date.
“Andy Santagata was a musician himself, and his surviving family members are dear clients of mine,” said Patrick Barry, co-managing attorney of Decof, Decof & Barry P.C. “On behalf of the firm, we are grateful to be able to help area students experience the enjoyment of music instruction. Our firm takes great pride in supporting this important program, in memory of Andy.”
The elimination of the school district’s elementary school music program in 2010 was “a devastating loss,” said Kerri Kelleher, BASICS President and Co-Founder.
“Decof, Decof & Barry’s kindhearted support for BASICS will allow five needy students to participate in the music program each year, and we are extremely thankful for the firm’s generosity towards this worthwhile cause,” Kelleher said.
Originally founded in 1975, Decof, Decof & Barry P.C. represents clients in personal injury law cases.
