PROVIDENCE – Deepwater Wind LLC, the company hoping to build an offshore wind farm near Block Island, has promoted its chief administrative officer to CEO, the company announced Thursday.

Jeffrey Grybowski, who had led Deepwater’s regulatory and business strategy, takes over as CEO from William M. Moore, who held the position from 2009 to 2012. Moore will join Deepwater’s board of directors.

Grybowski, a Rhode Island native and Brown University graduate, has been with Deepwater since 2008 and led development of the Block Island wind farm, according to a news release announcing the CEO change. Grybowski used to practice corporate law with Hinkley, Allen and Snyder LLP in Providence.

The company also named board of directors member Paul Gaynor its new board chairman.

“We’re thrilled that [President Chris van Beek, Grybowski and Gaynor] will lead Deepwater Wind as we move toward construction of the Block Island Wind Farm and take our larger, utility-scale projects to the next level of development in the coming year,” said Deepwater Wind principal owner Bryan Martin, managing director of D.E. Shaw Group.
