Developers buy two Fall River mills

FALL RIVER – Two granite mills were sold last month to developers with a track record of giving old buildings new life, The Herald News reported.

The Cornell Mill, 649 Alden St., was sold to Cornell Mill LLC, a company controlled by Starr Development Partners of Belmont, Mass., which specializes in converting old mills into market-rate housing. It sold for $620,000.

The company website shows several completed projects, including Slater Cotton Mill in Pawtucket, 124 units of market-rate rentals; Grant Mill in Providence, 85 units of market-rate rentals; and American Insulated Wire in Pawtucket, mixed-use commercial and residential with 143 rental units.

Just around the corner, Dennis Wood of Haskell, Okla., bought the mill at 749 Quequechan St. for $930,000. He plans to convert the building to self-storage units. •
