PROVIDENCE – The Women’s Fund Rhode Island, which works to eliminate gender inequality through systematic change, on Friday awarded six Rhode Island organizations a total of $40,000 in grants.

“This is the Women’s Fund twelfth round of grant making and we are beyond thrilled to honor these local organizations and advocates for women and girls,” said CEO Marcia Cone in a statement.

The grant recipients received awards ranging from $5,000 to $8,000. The recipients are: Girls Rock! Rhode Island, Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Rhode Island Foster Parents Association, Rhode Island National Organization for Women, Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders, and Socio-Economic Development Center for Southeast Asians.

U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse [D-RI] helped recognize the grant winners, praising their efforts in “advancing leadership and policy advocacy for women, girls and their families in Rhode Island.”

The Women’s Fund also announced it is funding, through a partnership with Verizon Foundation, a grant for the Senior Agenda Coalition, which works to engage Rhode Islander’s older population in public policy, to improve health outcomes through the use of telecommunications.

“At Verizon Foundation, we know how transformation receiving a grant for women’s advancement can be, and we applaud the Women’s Fund and U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse for highlighting the significance of womens’ economic advancement and its impact on the larger community,” said Michele Cinquegrano, Verizon’s Regional Director of External Affairs, in a statement.
