NEWPORT – Discover Newport was awarded first place in the destination video category at the recent 2016 North American Travel Journalists Association awards competition.
The competition, now in its 25th year, honors the “best of the best” in travel media, according to Discover Newport.
The four-and-a-half-minute-long video, which was filmed by Matt Coakley of Blue Mantle Media last spring, can be seen on the regional tourism organization’s YouTube page.

“This is a real coup for us,” Natalie Manning, creative director at Discover Newport, said in a statement. “Blessed with a week of gorgeous weather coupled with [Coakley’s] creative editing, we were thrilled with the finished product.”
Evan Smith, president and CEO of Discover Newport, said the award is a “tremendous honor.” “This video truly captures the essence of our remarkable destination and we’re proud of the talented team that created and produced it,” Smith said.
The nonprofit Discover Newport is the official destination management organization dedicated to promoting Newport and the eight surrounding coastal townships in Newport and Bristol counties: Barrington, Bristol, Jamestown, Little Compton, Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Warren.
Discover Newport will accept the award at the NATJA Conference & Marketplace in May.
