Do the risks of nuclear power outweigh the benefits?

As if the threat posed by the earthquake and resulting tsunami were not enough, the people of Japan have had to deal with an increasingly dangerous situation involving a nuclear reactor located on the coast.

While nuclear power promises non-carbon emitting energy, the issues of waste storage and removal, as well as the risk of disasters creating radioactive leaks, are real.

Is this method of generating electricity worth it?

Benefits are plainly illusory when using the most toxic substance on earth merely to boil water.

I agree with Richard from Providence. With all the safe alternatives such as solar and geothermal, it seems an unnecessary risk.
