Do you expect Marcel A. Valois to be able to change Rhode Island’s business climate?

Posted 5/26/13

The confirmation of Marcel A. Valois as the executive director of the R.I. Economic Development Corporation closes the loop on a job that has been empty since Keith W. Stokes resigned as head of the agency in the aftermath of the 38 Studios LLC meltdown.

One of the key challenges confronting Valois is whether he will be able to change the state’s business climate, which is perceived as being overly burdensome in regulation and taxes. What do you think?

You should have qualified the answer.

Does Mr. Valois have the ability and does he have the experience to achieve this? Certainly! Can he initiate a path to improving the business climate in RI? He must! But can he accomplish this awesome undertaking without the unwavering, unselfish and irrevocable support of our elected officials? Or without the experienced, prudent input of the business community? Most importantly, without the serious support and understanding of the RI voters? Absolutely not! Not a chance! And that, unfortunately, is where this story invariably ends!

My sincere best wishes to Mr. Valois in this endeavor.

I believe Mr. Lentini clearly presented the facts, accurately answered the questions, and eloquently described what continues to happen. We must end the free-rider policies and political minutia that has destroyed the business community of our state. Fortunately, for Mr.Valois this is where the story and his legacy could begin. Never compromise from what you already know is right and you will never struggle with what you need to do.

I wish all the best to Mr. Valois and his team.

Well Deserved,

John Micheletti
