Many observers of the Rhode Island political scene don’t see a lot of change coming in the General Assembly with regard to business-related legislation as a result of the election of Nicholas A. Mattiello as speaker of the R.I. House.
The Cranston Democrat is seen as even more business friendly than disgraced former speaker, Gordon D. Fox, who lowered the top marginal income tax rate to 5.99 percent from 9.99 percent, although he also is seen as having pushed through the loan guarantee program that set the state up for covering the loans made to 38 Studios LLC.
What is your sense of Mattiello? Will his election make a difference in the state’s economic health?
