Dominion Resources, owner of the Manchester Street Power Station in Providence, recently awarded a $2,500 grant to Read to Succeed through its charitable arm, the Dominion Foundation. Dominion Foundation’s grant was announced during a college-scholarship presentation for 18 Community Preparatory School students who completed the 2011 Read to Succeed summer program.

“We are thrilled that the Dominion Foundation has recognized the importance of Read to Succeed’s mission in encouraging reading during the summer months with a college-scholarship incentive,” said Barbara Papitto, president of the Papitto Foundation, the family foundation that launched Read to Succeed. “We like to think that Dominion, as our local energy company, is now powering Read to Succeed.”

Read to Succeed was founded by Ralph Papitto in 2008 and is funded through the Papitto Foundation. The nonprofit promotes reading by providing free books to schools and scholarship incentives for students to complete reading programs. So far, $71,000 in scholarships have been provided to Providence students through Read to Succeed. •
