Dorcas Place to hold education kick-off

PROVIDENCE – Dorcas Place Adult and Family Learning Center will hold its Adult Education Kick-off 2012 on Sept. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the organization’s front parking lot on Elmwood Avenue.
The event comes two days after the conclusion of national Adult Education and Family Literacy Week which is taking place now.
“It is impossible to overemphasize the importance of adult education and workforce training in Rhode Island and across the country as our nation works to strengthen the economy,” said Carol Homquist, Dorcas Place president and CEO, in a statement. “That involves a lot of hard work by our students and clients, as well as our faculty and staff.”
Dorcas Place serves low-income, low literacy/language arts adults through education and workforce development programs. The organization is in plans to merge with the International Institute of Rhode Island to from Dorcas International Institute.
