Downtown sidewalk project continues this summer

PROVIDENCE – Sidewalks along several major streets downtown will be reconstructed this summer, as the R.I. Department of Transportation continues a planned series of improvements to comply with new standards under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
Sections of Dorrance, Exchange, Washington, Westminster and Weybosset streets will be affected. The $2.6 million project is expected to begin in July and will be completed a year later.
The details are as follows:

  • Dorrance Street, Fulton to Westminster streets, east sidewalk to be replaced with new concrete.
  • Exchange Street, Westminster to Fulton streets, west sidewalk to be replaced with concrete.
  • Washington Street, Empire Street to Adrian Hall Way, north sidewalk corners to be replaced with concrete.
  • Westminster Street, Dorrance to Exchange streets, portions of the sidewalk on either side of the street being replaced with exposed aggregate sidewalk, installation of ornamental street lights, resurfacing of road.
  • Weybosset Street, Dorrance to Westminster streets, portions of the sidewalk on either side of the street to be replaced with concrete sidewalk, installation of ornamental street lights and resurfacing of road.
