ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE, DEPARTMENT OF GASTROENTEROLOGY – University Medicine Foundation/Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University
AGE: 35

Why did you select your profession?
It’s a total cliché, but I love to take care of people. … I get to use my mind to figure out diagnostic dilemmas, and I am able to use my hands when I perform endoscopic procedures. I’m lucky to have the best of both worlds.

What’s the best career advice you’ve received?
Know what you know, and know what you don’t know.

What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
Travel, see the world, and try to get some sleep. Also, consider investing in Google and Apple.

What is your favorite Rhode Island escape or hobby?
My wife and I love to bicycle the East Bay Bike Path from Providence to Bristol.

How do you keep a work-life balance?
I don’t think I’m very successful at it, but I’m trying. My wife and daughter keep me grounded. As soon as I walk in the door, I try to be present, putting the rest of my day behind me.

What one thing in your professional life would you like a do-over on?
I wish I had participated in the Brown traveling fellowship program.
