PROVIDENCE – Two city public relations firms were recognized at the 48th annual Bell Ringer Awards Ceremony in Boston held by The Publicity Club of New England, the region’s oldest nonprofit public relations trade organization.
The awards honor work done by public relations and communications professionals across New England each year. The ceremony was held June 9.
Duffy & Shanley received a Gold Bell for “Pandora, Alex and Ani, and the Ongoing Charm Wars” in the digital or print feature or commentary placement for a trade publication.
It also received a merit award in the digital or print feature or commentary placement category for a campaign in The Boston Globe – “Two Rival Jewelers Go on A Charm Offensive.”

JaiCG received a merit award in the social media category for communications campaigns for #ShareCommunity, a digital storytelling campaign created for Grow Smart Rhode Island, focusing on Rhode Island’s strengths.
“We share this award with Grow Smart RI, and are honored to be able to go toe-to-toe with bigger and more established agencies in the region,” Joseph Phommasith, JaiCG’s managing director, said.
#ShareCommunity includes a focus on urban revitalization, expanded transportation choices, and Rhode Island’s agriculture and food sector — three priorities that Grow Smart RI believes contribute to more vibrant communities and improved long-term economic opportunity and quality of life.
The #ShareCommunity campaign also recently caught the attention of the Rhode Island Foundation, which named Grow Smart RI the winner of its 2016 Best Practice in Communications Award at a May 10 ceremony that took place at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Phommasith said.
Havas PR, based in New York City but with an office in Providence, received a Gold Bell in the consumer launch campaign category for “America, Meet Your New Favorite Retailer: Primark.”
And, Matter Communications, which is based in Newburyport, Mass., and also has a Providence office, was recognized in several categories.
Matter received a Silver Bell for superior achievement in research for the JDA Sofware Black Friday Survey. Matter also received a Bronze Bell in the digital video category for the LoJack – Central Valley Video.

The May Institute, a national nonprofit geared toward helping children with autism that operates branches in Fall River, New Bedford and Raynham, received a Merit award for its 60th anniversary event campaign.

“PR is under increasing pressure to create and implement innovative ideas that have measurable, meaningful results,” Karyn Martin, president of The Publicity Club of New England, said in a statement. “The work showcased at this year’s Bell Ringer Awards represents individuals and teams that are at the top of their game; having successfully risen to this challenge to make an impact for hundreds of brands.”
