PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council and the R.I. Economic Development Corporation have established a collaborative partnership with the state’s General Assembly to build a legislative database as a resource for Rhode Island businesses.
A RIPEC release announced that the partnership will involve creating a database for tracking business-related legislation in the 2013 legislative session.
“If the state is to improve its competitive position, there must be a thorough examination of how the state fares on economic competitiveness and business climate policies,” RIPEC Executive Director John Simmons said in prepared remarks.
The database will specifically track legislation that is expected to have “considerable influence over the state’s tax structure, regulatory climate, public safety or economic development programming,” according to a RIPEC release.
The legislation will be monitored and listed in the database, which will be updated and posted to both the RIPEC and EDC’s websites.
According to the release, proposed legislation will be evaluated by the impact it has on the state’s business climate and cost of doing business. The organizations believe that the tracking database with help with these efforts.
“This legislative tracking initiative is aimed at assisting the business community and legislators by identifying which proposed policies may affect the cost of doing business in Rhode Island. To this end, the four organizations seek input and suggestions from the business community regarding the inclusion of pieces of legislation that have a significant business climate impact,” said the RIPEC release.
