PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Economic Development Corporation awarded its marketing contract to Brave River Solutions and a partner after not renewing with Duffy & Shanley earlier this year.
IT services company Brave River and its New York City-based partner, The Pont Group, announced the $120,000, one-year contract to manage the EDC’s social media and marketing needs Oct. 20.
Brave River will be focusing on the web strategy and The Pont Group will be focusing on the more “traditional” public relations, a spokeswoman said.
The Pont Group is “one of only a few public relations/marketing firms in the world that specializes in economic development, working with foreign and domestic states, nations and regions to promote their tourism propositions and their economies to attract inward investment,” a news release said.
The EDC did not renew its $12,000-a-month contract with Providence-based marketing and communications firm Duffy & Shanley, Providence Business News reported in August. The EDC issued a request for proposals and submissions were due Sept. 8.
“Effective use of social media allows economic development and tourism topics to be broadcast to a worldwide audience, when previously these topics may have only been available to an inside audience,” said Brave River President Ernie Gaines. “By partnering with The Pont Group, our local expertise is enhanced by their deep economic development resources and connections worldwide.”
“The combination of Brave River’s digital savvy and our experience in investment and tourism promotion will deliver great results for Rhode Island,” said Shirar O’Connor, The Pont Group principal.
The EDC’s social media plan includes a “heavy” focus on Facebook and blogging.
Brave River, based in Warwick, expanded its marketing team from one person to five people over the past year, in anticipation of landing this type of marketing contract, a spokeswoman said.
