EPA to review 20 sites in New England

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said that it will review site cleanups and remedies at 20 Superfund sites through New England, including several in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass.
EPA conducts evaluations every five years on previously completed cleanup and remediation work performed at Superfund sites listed on the National Priorities List, to determine whether the implemented remedies at the sites continue to protect human health and the environment. The evaluations also identify any deficiencies and, if called for, recommend actions to address them.
In Rhode Island, the sites are:
• Stamina Mills Inc., North Smithfield.
• West Kingston Town Dump/University of Rhode Island Disposal Area, South Kingstown.
In Bristol County, Mass., the sites scheduled for review are:
• Atlas Tack Corp., Fairhaven.
• New Bedford Harbor, New Bedford. •
