EAST PROVIDENCE – ESS Group Inc. has been awarded a five-year, $31.8 million contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to serve as one of its prime contractors to provide technical and administrative support for the agency’s National Aquatic Resource Surveys program.
The NARS program is a collaboration between the EPA, state agencies and tribes to conduct statistical surveys to assess the status of and changes in quality of the nation’s coastal waters, lakes and reservoirs, rivers and streams, and wetlands.
ESS Group, a privately held environmental consulting and engineering company, said technical and consulting services to be provided through the contract include surface water quality sampling and testing, sediment quality sampling and testing, macroinvertebrate population assessments, fish resource studies, aquatic plant management and monitoring, and other studies related to these watershed-scale assessments.
“The award of this significant multi-task order contract by the U.S. EPA as a prime contractor is a real game changer for ESS. It significantly advances our ability to expand our brand recognition and capabilities in the federal government services market sector on a national level,” ESS President and CEO Charles Natale said in a statement. “It also reaffirms our well-established expertise in water resource management and water quality assessment studies in coastal and inland environments, which has been one of our hallmark service lines over the last 20 years.”
