New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman visited Hasbro Children’s Hospital on May 20 to kick-off Dunkin’ Donuts’ annual philanthropic “Iced Coffee Day,” which was held on May 21.
“It was an absolute joy to see the looks on our young patients’ faces when Julian walked into their rooms – you could tell instantly they forgot they were in a hospital,” said Robert B. Klein, pediatrician-in-chief of Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
On Iced Coffee Day, medium-sized coffees are 99 cents, and 50 cents for every coffee sold is donated to the Dunkin’ Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation to benefit Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
Since the annual fundraiser’s launch in 2010, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisees have raised nearly $633,000. The funds have been used to purchase activity books, install a new play area and renovate the sixth floor family room, which was completed April 2014.
The foundation plans to use this year’s proceeds to initiate a new neighborhood and family-safety program. •
