NORTH KINGSTOWN – Electric Boat is expanding its facility at Quonset Point to include a new 146,000-square-foot production facility.

The building will “house hundreds of tradespeople” working on submarine modules, the company said in a news release. Electric Boat is the U.S. Navy’s primary contractor for submarines.

Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, Sens. Jack Reed, Sheldon Whitehouse and Rep. James Langevin plan to attend the dedication ceremony on Tuesday, when Electric Boat President John Casey will announce the company’s economic forecast for the coming year.

Electric Boat is a subsidiary of General Dynamics Corp. in Falls Church, Va. They employ more than 10,000 workers at Quonset Point and Groton, Conn., The Boston Globe.com said.
