GROTON, Conn. – The U.S. Navy has awarded a $20 million contract modification to General Dynamics Electric Boat for nuclear-maintenance work for submarines.
Under the terms of the contract, Electric Boat will continue to operate the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department at the submarine base.
According to a release, Electric Boat will provide project management, planning, training and nuclear services to support maintenance, modernization and repairs to the submarines stationed at the naval submarine base in Groton.
A core group of roughly 25 Electric Boat workers are assigned to the NRMD, with groups of up to 100 shipyard employees assigned for short periods, said the General Dynamics release.
Electric Boat has been awarded two initial contract modifications, valued at $25 million. The contract has a total potential of $164 million over five years.
