NORTH ATTLEBORO – The owners of the Emerald Square Mall have landed an $800,000 tax refund from the town in an agreement that ends four years of tax abatement requests by Simon Property Group, according to The Sun Chronicle.

The property group filed abatement requests disputing the value of the mall made by assessors. The requests were for property tax bills from 2009 through 2012.

According to the Chronicle, the tax abatement requests were denied by the board of assessors and the property group filed appeals with Boston’s Appellate Tax Board.

Simon and the board of assessors reached an agreement reducing the four-year total tax bill from $7.9 million to $7.1 million before the Appellate Tax Board held any hearings.
