PROVIDENCE – The last three days of December saw 1,502 more Rhode Islanders enroll in private health plans through HealthSource RI, the state’s federally mandated health benefits exchange.

The total of those who have enrolled in individual plans, as of Dec. 31, was 11,305, and does not include those covered through their employers.

The latest of release of numbers from HealthSource RI did not update new Medicaid enrollees. Through the end of November – the last date for which figures were available – the number of new Medicaid enrollees in the state brought in by HealthSource RI stood at 5,280.

According to Dara Chadwick, chief of strategic communications and media relations at HealthSource RI, cumulative data for the first three months of the state’s Affordable Care Act exchange’s existence (through January 4), including new Medicaid figures and demographic information, will be released next week.

Open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act ends March 31. Small employers may enroll at their renewal date, regardless of where the date falls on the calendar. Medicaid-eligible individuals may enroll throughout the year as well.
