Engagement helps improve health

Engagement begins at the top.

That’s certainly the case at grocery chain Dave’s Marketplace. Company leaders wholeheartedly support their employees’ health and wellness endeavors.

For instance, the East Greenwich-headquartered company recently covered the entry fee for all employees participating in a BoldrDash obstacle course race – and were there to root them on.

“They’re very employee-centric,” said Kevin Lovett, senior vice president of employer benefits at Gencorp Insurance Group, who helps facilitate Dave’s wellness effort.

Indeed, Dave’s has a proven track record of promoting health and wellness.

As a self-insured group, the company offers enrolled employees and their spouses a deductible subsidy if they meet three requirements: Complete a routine physical exam, participate in a biometric screening and engage in at least one wellness activity

The results? Diagnosis of early-onset diabetes has increased, as has employees engaged in preventative care – such as mammograms and colonoscopies. n
