FALL RIVER – The Thursday, April 5 Southern New England Entrepreneurs Forum will focus on the $2.4 billion federal business innovation research program.

At the event – which is scheduled for Thursday, April 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center – speakers will discuss their experience with SBIR grants, the SBIR program in general and tools for preparing proposals.

Marina Katayeva, president of nanotechnology and optoelectronic materials maker Emitech Inc., plans to discuss Emitech’s experience obtaining and managing SBIR grants from the U.S. Department of Defense.

Likewise, George Wright, president of GLSynthesis Inc. will discuss his company’s experience getting SBIR grants from the U.S. National Institutes of health. GLSynthesis is a chemistry-based company which is involved in custom organic synthesis and manufacturing, drug and chemical product research, and product development and sales.

Dan Lilly, a contract specialist at the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network, plans to provide attendees with an introductory understanding of the SBIR program, the process to seek SBIR grants, the federal agency sources of funding, and tools to help you prepare a strategic planning prior to proposal preparation.

According to a release, the SBIR program was “established to help small businesses engage in research and development. SNEEF attendees will be able to determine if they would like to pursue proposal development for SBIR grants.”

Members of SNEEF can attend the workshop for free. Non-members must pay either $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The event fee includes a light supper. Interested parties can register at www.sneef.org.
