Estes/Twombly receives AIA award

NEWPORT – The American Institute of Architects has given a Merit Award to Estes/Twombly Architects, of Newport, for its design of the West Ferry Studio in Jamestown.
The project embodied the quiet restraint and frugal nature of a small structure, according to the award description. The studio structure, located on a suburban lot, “can be thought of as the carriage house that the main house never had,” according to the award.
The award was part of the 2015 AIA New England Design Awards, which recognize design excellence in New England or by New England architects.
